Jumpin’ With Stagger Lee 18

It’s been a sad few weeks for all sorts of reasons – losing people like Muhammad Ali, Bernie Worrell and Ralph Stanley, and then *that* vote. But hey. it’s also summer. So this edition of Jumpin’ With Stagger Lee tries to keep on the sunny side whilst acknowledging the dark side.

Jumpin 18.jpg

There’s two tracks from Daniel Romano‘s remarkable new album Mosey and new tracks as well from new albums by Screamin’ Miss Jackson & The Slap Ya Mama Big Band, Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds, Peter J Smyth, The Felice Brothers, Eli Paperboy Reed, Steve Gunn and Dexys.

There’s a tune from my current obsession Stick In The Wheel, and a cut from Quantic‘s new reggae project. In fact, there’s quite a lot of reggae because summer.

You can stream the mix here and download it here.

Some Forthcoming Stagger Lee Gigs

Things are looking quite busy in the coming weeks, kicking off with two Tea Pad Presents gigs next weekend.

On July 2nd, Narc Fest 2016 takes over the Ouseburn and this year the Tea Pad are hosting a stage at the Cumberland. 7pm – late, free entry. I’ll be joining Rob Heron on the decks.

And then the very next day, the Tea Pad have their fourth annual Sunshine Medicine Show, another great line-up and again it’s free. 3pm-9pm this one, also at the Cumberland and also free.

Then on the weekend of July 16th / 17th it’s time for the annual SummerTyne Americana down at the Sage. There’s the usual Jumpin’ Hot Stage outside and I’ll be spinning tunes between the bands. Always a great couple of days…

The following weekend I’ll be over in Lancashire for another visit to The Perfumed Garden at Beatherder Festival. Always an oasis of good taste and comparative calm away from the taps aff kids, all ripped to the tits on blood-boiling rave drugs.

I’ll be playing at 4.30 on the Saturday afternoon and while I’m still not sure what kind of set I’ll be playing, it’ll probably involve some soul and some reggae.

Further away, I’ll be playing some tunes at the third Narc In The Park at the new Wylam Brewery in Exhibition Park on August 20th. And then on September 24th I’ll be hosting a one-off Jumpin’ With Stagger Lee night down at Ernest in Ouseburn (it’ll serve as a sort of belated birthday do too). More details nearer the time.

Welcome To The New Site

Various factors – webhosts being sharks, me being lazy and disorganised – mean the old Stagger Lee blog is no more. And this is only just creaking into life. But content will be added in due course – mixes, DJ slots and the like. Stuff that dreams are made on.

Watch this space.
